Dear Southern friend of mine who is a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy:
About that pix you sent me of the "statue of liberty" of Aunt Jemima holding a chicken leg. I suppose that's some reference to the Obama presidency. Sigh. I did endure that kind of stuff all through the election.
Wouldn't it be weird being born in black skin, no fault of your own, no say about it, and so many people don't like you without even knowing you? because you were born in AMERICA and JUST LAST CENTURY?
Cousin, your Southern attitudes never cease to amaze me. You should thank God a thousand times over for being born a minority on this planet, in a wealthy nation, and in a period of time where life is pretty easy with electronics, drugs, good doctoring, no disease, and nuclear war hasn't happened yet! Employed or not, we're pretty lucky all around.
Well not all of us. I have friends and relatives who didn't get good educations and that was THEIR CHOICE. So they live paycheck to paycheck, accept hand-me-downs, don't have the pride to have incomes to raise their families on their own. They swallow their pride every time they see people with more money, nicer cars, better jobs...and that's MOST PEOPLE THEY MEET! Amazingly, they are all bigoted to some extent or others, about blacks.
I'm not sure how religious I am, but I expect racist Southerners will be taught a lesson when sitting on a hard bench in front of St Peters office...and have to wait until all the dead people of color they dissed get their 'into heaven paperwork' finished before THEY DO. Catholics call that penance. I'll be there awhile too, Dot, but for gender SINS, not attitudes of privilege! You really should rent the DVD, "Coming to America'. Good lesson.Surely you know that Aunt Jemima's ancestors didn't come through Ellis Island. They came naked in the chained up, shit on yourselves, belly of slave ships that arrived in Norfolk and Charleston, and yes, NY, but way before Ellis Island was built for the white Europeans who had no money but came voluntarily.
Amazing...that even when white and poor, you get cuts in line over blacks who may have been children of village leaders, kidnapped indiscriminately by Englishmen and Portuguese who arrogantly thought that all nigguhs look alike in Africa's 17th century!
I'm still expecting God to rain down his wrath on we Americans of privilege because of our arrogance.
